Yurt for sale (12 foot diameter)

Post by Jon »

I made this for me and now I want to do another. Up at the recent Pennsic only and cleaned thoroughly. Poplar construction, nylock nuts, 16 pole roof, conical roof canvas, treated sunforger canvas. I put some pics up at http://www.armlann.com/yurt.htm E-mail or PM me with questions. $800.00 and we'll have to work out delivery. I think shipping would be prohibitive so if you're anywhere near Chicagoland or anywhere I plan to be, let me know. Thanks.

That is lovely! I find the third picture down, with the lantern in the roof opening particularly evocative. I can imagine being at Pennsic at night and hearing the drumming in the background. Sitting in the lantern lit yurt glimpsing the stars through the opening.

Thanks Doug. It is a very cool space with the lantern lit at night. Probably will make a 14 footer next. We found the 12 to be plenty for the two of us but I will likely use the same scale and just make the diameter a little bigger. I already have the math worked out so no reason to start over completely!

I know we're approaching the off season but 115 views and no nibbles? Thanks for looking.

Sorry mate, 12 is a bit small for me and the family I take to events. i'm redoing the woodwork on my 16 footer anyway.
And yah, laying in my ger at night at events looking up at the stars through the smoke ring, hearing the drums and the noise of camp, it really takes you there, ya know?

I've always thought yurts look wonderfully sturdy and all... but don't you end up with alot of material to transport due to the inner wooden structure?

Also, how big a pain is it to set up? I can normally set up for merchanting in less than an hour. Yurts look like you'd be spending a few hours on the construction.

My 16 foot ger has two sections of khana, or walls, a stack of rafters, a roof ring, and a door frame. The canvas goes in a large tupperwareinside the van while the wood rides on the luggage rack on top. If you have it set up right one person can set up a ger like mine in about 45 minutes to an hour. If you have two people it's a lot faster.
