I found this months ago, and while better-suited parts are already being made, this may save someone's event in a pinch.
When I was doing research for my now cancelled X-2 Bascinet helmet program, (X-1 being a "Sugarloaf" helmet still languishing in my garage, and X-3 Sallet program being currently outsourced to Ironmonger)
I was having a hard time finding vervelles. Not that people did not list them, but they rarely had them in stock. Apparently, it is not just having the mold, but having the foundry do the production runs that makes it so hard for our good armorers and suppliers.
In the infamous Fall of 2001 I was refinishing a bureau with what is called "bail handle" pulls

and became familiar with how they work.
Later on when I saw vervelles outside of a helmet I was immediately reminded of the posts used for these pulls.
I looked up and indeed there is a supplier out there for just the posts, which look like this:

The threaded part can be cut with a dremel tool, and Voila! a very satisfactory vervelle. They are very hard, and if you can anneal them they may work better. (I discovered that the kitchen oven does not get hot enough for this... don't ask for details....
If they can be softened so that they can be peened easily it may even work as an easy permanent solution, but as they are, the manufacturer keeps them in stock and they look just about right, if you thread the stump to the correct lenght and bolt them to the bascinet.
I hope this may help all the bascinet wearing people out there.
