Looking for a bow
I'm looking for a Martin X200 with a 45 to 50 lb draw weight for around a hunnert bux. I'll consider another make recurve with the same price and draw weight.

Re: Looking for a bow
Edward,
It sounds a bit like too much hope. Those are much coveted bows (even though I shoot longbows exclusively) and at that money you are not going to find one, unless someone likes you a lot and is doing you a favor.
There are archery websites where people post bows for sale, and the ubiquitous Ebay if you feel like looking through a lot of offerings.
Is this for hunting? Target? Plinking? There are many recurves out there that you could use, besides the X-200. Lastly there is the issue of age and storage. A bow kept for 10 years hanging from a peg in a barn in Wisconsin (where temperatures and conditions change dramatically during the year) is not going to be in the same shape as a newer bow of a different type, or a bow kept and maintained in a more controlled environment.
Shoot safely.

Hi Rowan! And thanx for the input. I shoot target. I plink, but I also shoot IKAC. A couple years ago when I was actually going to events and shooting I think I made it into the upper 1/3 or so SCA-wide. I'm not an archery noob. Anyways...I've had a 35 lb X200 for several years and I LOVE the thing, but It's time to move up to a heavier bow. Believe me, I know how sought after they are, but I was hoping somebody here might have one they didn't want anymore, and just wanted to unload it cause they DO really like me.
I've found one on ebay and it's hovering a little above a hundred bux, but any price below 200 is a darn good price. When I bought mine I paid like 225 or so for it, but they've since increased in price to between 270 and 325 or so depending on where you're looking. I would dearly love to own a Mamba or a Dream-Catcher but both are way out of my price range. *sigh* Maybe someday. I found a Mamba on ebay a month ago that was hovering at 175, and finally sold for about 220. Like an idiot I decided not to bid. 220 is stealing that bow. I didn't really hold out much hope of finding one here, but thought I'd give it a shot. I notice you're in MD, and I sincerely hope one day soon we'll be able to meet at an event and spend a pleasant afternoon cutting paper.

Wow, that is good shooting. I am sorry if I assumed otherwise, but you must admit it was a rather hopeful request
Now, have you considered a modern longbow?
I have a couple of bows, including a very pretty ELB from Pacific Yew, that I still need to tame, but I swear by my little inexpensive AIM VIPER in 40#. I paid about $175 new and it shoots as well as my friends's 600 buck Tomahawk. I know recurves are fun, but there is something about the longbows.
Same here about meeting. We have (and I am NOT talking about myself) some awesome archers in our area, Gregge The Archer (Kingdom Champion) Timothy of Shaftsbury, the vintenar of the Needwood Forest Company of Archers, the indomitable Seamus, Vaclav, it is both annoying and inspiring to shoot next to those guys.
If you can make it to some event in Stierbach (about as south as most DC area guys got for regular events) or plan to come to some kingdom-wide event, drop me (or shoot me
0 a line...

I've been lusting after a Pacific Yew longbow for years! At some point I'd like to get into shooting Traditional in the IKAC, and I'd dearly love to have a Pacific Yew bow. When I was out in Nevada I always had in the back of my mind attending one of the bow making classes they hold a couple times a year, and making my own D cross section longbow, cause I could have driven up to where they hold the classes. Now that I'm in Savannah that's out of the question, but I'd still love to learn how to make those D section bows. I've dabbled in the period-style self nocked arrows with the thread around the fletches. They're tedious, but fun to make, and when you're done they're just beautiful arrows. Almost a shame to shoot 'em and have 'em break, or hide in the grass.
I guess I'm gonna have to make it up North a bit for a shoot!
