Archive informal Questionaire from Atzinger Shieldworks

Post by Vitus von Atzinger »

Guys, I love making rattan scabbards. I love making shields. I love making SCA weapons.

I feel like I am leaving certain types of fighters out. What other types of styles should I try? Fantasy stuff with skulls for Tuchux-types? Celtic designs? I need design ideas. There are alot of guys out there whose style-needs I don't really grasp, ya know?

Any ideas?

Japanese. I'd buy some laquered looking ones. Tachi mounting style is appropriate for armoured combat. Early periods are covered in tiger skin.
I am the SCA's middle finger.

To thine own self be true. If you are interested in the history, then stay there. If you are interested in fantasy, then say so. If you are interested in both, do that as well, but make a distinction between them.

whole matched sets.
With a slight discount if a person buys a whole set.

If i had the extra cash right now...(oh but I will in about a week BAWAHAHAHA)...

I would have ordered a whole set of matching dagger/longsword/greatsword
With sheaths for the appropriate ones. And a shield for them to paint, that is appropriate for their chosen time.

Since you have been toying with decorated hilts how about different levels of weapons.
Economy-just the base dagger/sword
Flashy- A dagger/sword with a generic decoration
Custom- A dagger/sword with decoration of the customers design

All on a tiered price range.

I like the idea of the weapons from different cultures. I already sort of do that for your shields.

My 2 cents...

Matt

But we would need good guards and pommels for making rattan spatha. Who makes those?

Greetings Sir Vitus,

A sword harness hanging from a baldric would be sweet and well received.

Some Norse stuff? Seconded on the scabbard hanging from a baldric. A Seax sheath for the normal front-hanging position made for rattan?
