You know, I know diddly about archery, and I could probably land myself an english-oid longbow-type-thing for around fifty bucks without trying too hard.
But I don't really want a longbow, I want a shortbow. Like a turkish one, but I"m willing to settle for a hwarang-do bow, hungarian, or something turkish-oid short-bow-ish. Trouble is, I just want to pick up a cheap one to see if I like it. LIke maybe around fifty bucks-ish. But all the prices i've ever seen for shortbows are outrageous.
Does anybody have a source for cheap beginner shortbows?

The straight 50"-60" bows that camps and schools use (solid neon green fiberglass or black fiberglass) are $49. And you want a wooden reflex/deflex bow for $50?
Let me know when you find that deal. I'd like to get a few dozen and open a business.
I think the least expensive one I've seen is the one Lienhart is talking about, solid fiberglass wrapped in leather by Grozer without siyahs. The adult size is like 51". You might be able to find an old used one or a kids bow (around 44") for $100-$130.
And so you know, those english longbowoid oak bows that run $50 are barely fit for use in kindeling. When ever I see someone with it, I don't know if I should laugh or cry. (Don't get me wrong...a great bow for a little kid to get started, but v poor cast and they get string follow like a b-stard)

No. I wouldn't mind a black fiberglass shortbow. I'm sure there are some turkish or korean schools out there who start kids out in archery. I just don't know who they are.

Congratulations! You've hit one one reason why the self longbow was so popular in Noethwest Europe (and Britian in particular).... it's MUCH cheaper and easier to make that a composite short bow.

Back then, yeah; they didn't have fiberglass.
Let me be clear. I'd LOVE to commission a couple good bowyers I know to make me a vastly expensive composite horn proper turkish shortbow.
But I don't think I'm even worth that amount of money, according to accountants.
So I want to try it, and see if its worth saving towards. Therefore, I'm looking for a cheap beginner alternative. I'm pretty certain there's prolly a company in Korea or maybe one of the 'Stans that makes something cheap & easy to come by. Fiberglass is ok by me for this one.
