It's based on a 15th-century writing tablet case, and while it's around twice the size of the original, it is in a sense the modern equivalent in function- it's sized to hold my digital camera and notebook for events, museum trips, and so forth. I also plan to use it for my period sewing kit, at least until I get another one like it.
I can't express enough how stoked I am to have this case. The level of crafts(wo)manship is top-notch, and I expect my heirs to be fighting over who gets it when I die. Cat's sense of customer service was so good it was almost embarrassing- she e-mailed me with updates at every stage, double-checked every detail before proceeding, and generally left me feeling like a wealthy lord being waited on hand and foot by his own personal artisan. My only regret is that I didn't set aside enough money to order two or three different items from her at the same time; now I have to get in the back of the queue again while everyone else clamors for her attention.
