WTB Helm for Ottoman Turkish Persona

Post by Hanko Kal »

Looking to pick up a new helm that is more in line with my persona. I have found one or two that are somewhat aimed in that line but I was wondering what I might have missed. Anybody have any advice for me?

Budget is going to be $400 or less. (Unless I have a great run at poker soon for some extra spending money)

We can do that for you in that budget, with a lifetime guarantee. If you want stainless, it will be slightly more...

Your grace, would that be the Turkish Onion Top Helm from your site in Mild? I am definitely looking forward to seeing the picture of it.

M.Suprovich the water mark on your photos is REALLY annoying.

Just FYI.

With all due respect M.Suprovich, but would that facemask pass a marshal for SCA heavy list?

No. But, with some modification it could.

I can modify it for SCA standarts.

And it's worth modifying, or asking the maker to modify. It's simply a beautiful helmet.

I want to also put in a plug for Mad Matt. He does a helm that would work for a turkish personna, for very little money.

You might consider him for a lower priced alternative.

Yeah, same one. We used to have a picture up of the onion top helm but lost it in the move. We will have to make another and post some pics.
I will check some old resources to see if I can find some pics...

I couldn't find a digital copy of that photo. Where would I go looking for it?

Frieman which helm of mine works for turkish? I don't know much about turkish stuff.

Oh and thanks for the plug.

Also if you really wanted to spend the $400 I can make a special higher price for you.

Also also Ezark you should post what time period you're looking for. Far as I know the turks were around for a pretty long time.

Well, it would take some tweaking, but because the visor is a separate item, I figured that the tweaking was almost built in. I was thinking of the onion topped bascinet, with a light leather drape around the back. If you did the face plate in your low pro fixed grille, painted matte black, the overall shape would be a lot like the turkish helms in figure 54 and 55 of stone's glossary. The point of the Onion Dome is higher in the helms in Stones's and it wouldn't have the deely bop on the top of the onion dome, or the fluting, but the shillouette is close, for less than two hundred bucks, plus the leather and the rivets.

My books are still packed from the move. I'll take a look at stones glossary hopefully this weekend.

Taller point is no problem. Neither are flutes. Also neither is riveting a skirt to the inside of the helm with a leather strip between

The Ottoman's were late period turks. M.Suprovich's helm is actually very close to the historical pieces that I have seen pictures of.

The Ottoman Helms really didn't change that much from the end of the 13th Century right through Mehmed III...I think Ezarc may be looking for something stylistically closer to the time of, say, Battle of Lepanto...am I correct in that assumption?

That would be the correct time period.

Thank you Roibeard.
