This Anglo-Saxon Lyre is made with a red oak body, tiger maple top, purpleheart head reinforcement, purpleheart tailpiece and bridge. Set with Zither pins for consistency and playability. Strings are Aquila Nylgut (Best synthetic gut strings).

I would like to start the auction at $300 plus shipping.

I made a few of these recently for some friends. I made an extra and have decided to throw it up here before I put it on Ebay.

This looks like an excellent Lyre. The maple top is absolutely beautiful. Most of the Anglo Saxon Lyre finds are maple, with the Oberflacht Lyre (German) is oak, so the choice of materials is right. The purpleheart is an interesting and beautiful choice.

The Zither Pins are almost required for playing to a modern audience. Some folks can play with friction pegs, but I sure as hell hate trying.

SgtUlrik, I am curious, you obviously have the skills to go either way. Why did you chose to go with a one piece body assembly rather than going with the Mortise and Tennon?

Frieman,

I have done mortise and tennon lyre in the past, but for this batch I decided to try it with a lateral reinforcement head piece instead, stress testing I did on the development piece showed that the head was nearly if not stronger then a solid lateral head.

Very nice work!

It might just be the lighting but the it seems that the purple heart is still kind of brown from machining. Did you sun it before you finished it?
