I've been tooling around with this for years and got it to enough of a state of completion to get it out of the house - I wear later stuff. This byrnie has never been fought in.
Technically this is lamellar since there is no backing - each scale is laced to all the others around it using an interesting 4-hole pattern I ran into years ago.
The scales are mixed. Some are only wax hardened. Others were water hardened using the Cariadoc method and then dipped in wax for protection of the scale, not for hardening. They are laced with jute twine.
The water hardening method (for those who don't know) is tricky because it shrinks the scale. I tailored this byrnie so that the small scales are used under the ribcage, to tailor it so that it's more body shaped.
Buckles together in the back. The shoulder straps attach in the back and can be adjusted for people taller than me.
Fits my body - 5'10", 40" chest, minor gut. I intended that it be worn over a gambeson or other padding.
I intended to put thick leather pteryges on the waist and the shoulders - I figured 2 layers of 10oz strips would do some good. But that's not happening before I need it out of the shop. I would be more than comfortable wearing this for SCA combat over a gambeson.
I'm asking $200 + actual shipping. Ask questions!
