Asking for a DVD of the Midrealm Crown Tournament 26MAY08

Post by Aaron »

Hi,

I believe this will be one of the most watched tournaments in SCA history. I'd like to have someone videotape it for me and put it on a DVD, if at all possible.

The actual fights are borderline on irrelevant, though I have no doubt that there will be a fierce competition between those who fight, but not for the crown. I'd fight for the right to lay my polehammer at the feet of one fighter, and one fighter alone.

This is a chance for redemption at the hands of the populace, where pits of ambition as well as the apex of nobility might show itself for all to see, and clash. This could be modern Shakespeare -- either a epic of heroic sacrifice or tragedy of the ambition of man --remains to be seen. Will it be Henry V or Richard III?

If this turns out right (IMO), then it will bring tears to my eyes and make for great watching. If this turns out wrong, I’d like to view it as well. It will still bring tears.

The whole world is watching this, as far as the SCA is concerned. I'd like to watch it as well.

I'm in for $20 for a DVD of the event, not including shipping (I'll pay for that too). Do I have anyone who can bid to film it for me...and even add a soundtrack?

With respect,

-Aaron

Aaron, I'm no techie, but I know a few. I also know someone who will be there with a video camera.

Would you settle for YouTube?

Naw.

For something THIS epic, YouTube just won't cut the mustard. It would be like viewing Ran or Star Wars (the first one) or Ben Hur or whatever-you-find-to-be-epic...on a grainy screen.

This needs to be on a DVD or at least reasonable quality CD.

I've seen YouTube fights, where I'm fighting, and I can only figure out it's me because it looks like I'm in an-all-white-jumpsuit...because none of the detail comes through.

I could settle for an epic poem I guess, but a DVD or CD would be best.

If money is an issue, please let me know.

With respect,

Aaron is talking of the unusual Double Crown tournement and the display of Chivalry many of us are hoping for.

Because there has been a declared monarch for the duration of the reign, and he’s going to be in the tournament fighting for the reign he won for fighting, then lost on a technicality.

The people fighting have a choice.

a. The honorable option. They can enjoy the fights against each other, and then lay down their arms for the person who legitimately won last time, but was ousted due to a delay by the US Postal Service.

Many here in the Middle who previously did not plan on attending Crown are going to be there, swelling the number of the Populace. This is a one-time (hopefully never again) event.

I expect cheers, broad smiles, and tears before the morning is over.

I would love to see how the first tournament turns out. I can watch it on you tube or any other way it is offered. I am just interested in seeing how it is handled.

Take care and be well,

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens. This will be an excellent test.

But just in case, we all need to send Starbucks Gift Cards to Sir Vitus.

Aaron,

I know a Duke, who came from the Middle to Atlantia and also became King by his own hand, they make them no better. If he were but a small show of the quality of Midrealmers, you will not be disappointed.

The Chivalry and chivalry of the Middle are beyond any tests. I have great expectations, because of the high chivalry of this Noble Realm.

Personally, were I a fighter of the Midrealm, I'd walk to the lists, stick a sword on the ground and call that the true king should be the one to remove from the ground.

The only thing that makes me feel better about not being there, is that I will be on the field at Sapphire, as opposed to "in England a-bed"

I gave my word to my wife that she would fight in the next event we go to, and I'd do child care. Her armour is not done yet and her helmet is getting redone as well. So we have a delay.

While I could casually ask her to fight, and she would give her blessing, the overwelming waves of guilt would hit like cup shots...without a cup... :(

My mother trained me right. I can feel guilty easily at the THOUGHT of MAYBE making my wife SOMEWHAT unhappy.

But a DVD would still be nice to see. This could be a pinicale of honor to watch.

Aaron,

What pieces does she need? I have a couple of items floating around that she can borrow until she gets her own stuff...

We've got at least two loaner suits, but she's holding out for her own armour, fitted to her, designed to her and for her. Heinric is working on the armour and Drew is working on redoing the helmet.

I offered to buy Duke Andre's 11 lb Aluminum armour (full suit) for her, in ADDITION to the armour that’s being done for her. It's the wrong style...

I offered to hire the SCA’s foremost Expert on Samurai (SES).

She would prefer to wait until Heinric is done with the first suit. She did agree to allow me to offer to take the SES out for dinner (on us) at a Japanese restaurant where she and the SES would crack open their books and debate over sushi, sashimi, yakitori and tempura soba…while I go off somewhere to keep the kids under wraps.

She views wearing loaner armour like wearing someone else's underwear.

Even if it fit is right, it makes you feel uncomfortable when you're exercising, and sometimes even the color scheme might be bad. And even if nobody else knows, you still know that the underwear isn’t your own.

She's a hard woman to please...but I like a challenge!

Hi,

Can anyone offer the DVD of the Midrealm Crown (especially the "pre-Crown" and Duke Dag's words)?
