Only thing is butted chainmail made of steel can be damn heavy.
So hey, why not make leather chainmail? It would be fun, look good, and smell great.
What'dya guys think?

mmm... There are a sort of "braided" leather vest that come about as close as one might ever hope to get to achieving "leather maille".
It would be an awful lot of work to produce something with no practical use whatsoever

Heh...get a long leather cord, wind it around a meal tube slightly longer than the ring size you want. Cut along the length, and you have your rings. Then fit it together and, I guess, tie or rivet the rings together...
Would be a very amusing gimmick.

It'd be easier, and probably MUCh faster to get a stamp that looks like a linked ring, do that, stain the bloody thing black, and paint the rings silver.
Leather "cheap chain" (if anyone remembers that stuff)

Here's a stamp that would work, after a fashion

Making actual leather rings would just be a huge waste and produce something kind of soggy looking

The LOTR guys had a brilliant solution with the cut up plastic tubing.
