WTB WTT SMALL USED CHEAP helm (SCA)
One of the ladies at my local practice needs her own lid.
She's been wearing my ancient Sir Karl von Sussen "Clone" helm (so old, that Squire Karl made it by hand!) and it's not cutting it, due to her being about half my size.
I shot a tape measure around her head, it's a 22 inch circ. Top of her shoulder to top of her head is 11 inches.
The lady in question is a student. We have about six loaner helms, none of them fit. I'm probably making the purchase as a gift, and am not awash with cash at the moment either.
Here's what I need:
Has to FIT her
Bargrill
SCA legal, or restorable to legal with basic tools
Persona, consistent kit, all take back seat to safety bucket for head.
I will not insult a professional armorer with the price I can pay at this point in time which is about $50 USD without a bunch of expensive shipping.
Trades welcome.
Thanks in advance for the help, gang!

I would check with Hjalmr, here on the Archive. Seems to make good lids, with very little costs. Maybe he can make a "budget" one for her?
Westerners, we have forgotten our origins. We speak all the diverse languages of the country in turn. Indeed the man who was poor at home attains opulence here; he who had no more than a few deiners, finds himself master of a fourtune.

That's generally why I didn't go to you or Stonekeep first. I know you do great entry level stuff, but honestly, it isn't worth $50 of welding time to kick out a bargrill for that sort of money. If someone had a helmet they had built for someone else and mucked up the measurements and were trying to recoup the loss, maybe, but for a straight comission-Please.
You guys need to work for paying customers.
If this thing with Aegis don't work I might get some parts from Cet.
But really, for $50, I'm not gonna waste your time.
If we some up with some more money, then I would ask about your "get her on the field quick and dirty" helm.
I do appreciate the sentiment, though, truly.

Ceawlin,
I am glad that you found the used helm. If it works out to be right then the problem is solved.
But I do have a piece of advice for you.
It's really easy to get excited about training and equipping a lady to fight. For old fart nerds like me, that's as close to being cool as I will ever get.
I would suggest that you get the used bucket into condition, and then put HER in touch with Hjalmr. Loan the used bucket to her until she gets her own from Hjalmr.
I certainly think that you will be finding another use for the loaner bucket in the years to come, and she will be happier with a custom made bucket, even if it is munitions grade. There is something cool about a custom made anything, and things have more value when you pay for them. She is more likely to not drop out that way.
And, while I know that it's fun to be generous, you will save fifty bucks.
Anyway, that's my advice.

Can you armor yourself?
I've a bascinet that I should finish one day, but it hates me, and I hate it.
It's pretty small.
It's about 2/3rds done.
Needs some clean up on the visor (after you cut it off
) hinges/pivots, eyeslot and breaths cut/drilled, and finished/sanded/polished.
Realisticly it's allready worth more than $50. But if you wanted to finish it, I wouldn't feel compelled to and could get it off the wall of unfinished stuff that has frustrated me all to hell and back.

It looked better in my head....
Damnit.

Trying not to bump this bad boy to the top, but Mattmaus, please check your PM's
And Freiman, I grok what you're saying, when Emeleine has some sort of income again, she will get her own helm, and this one will go on the shelf at the practice site. Living in a mostly Portuguese-American community, we have a need for small helms. This is a band-aid, so Emelyne can turn her head while in armor. She's been in armor for three years, and the Earl Marshall's cousin. She's not going anywhere.

Ceawlin.
I have a small sized bascinet that I will sell to you for $50. Its worth $80 (or more perhaps) but I will donate the extra cost to helping her out. It is 14g mild steel and will serve her/you well.
