Shriveled Leather

Post by Torvaldr »

So wanna see why on occasion I get behind on both materials and time? Take a look at a set of shovel greaves that got warped in the oven during the pre waxing baking stage. Pretty aren't they?

Leather is an imperfect medium. It is skin, and can have hidden flaws that I do not see or catch until too late. Normally this seems to happen during the waxing or post wax bake. Luckily this time I am not out the wax too. But that is about $60 to $70 of leather up in smoke. Almost literally. And there is nothing I can do about it. Except cry.

Can these pieces be used for something else? like replacement lames, or something where it is not just a loss?

I might be able to salvage the greave part and make them a pair of flat bottom greaves. The type without the ankle bone covers. Cut off the bottoms and cut off the knee sections. I will see what I can do with them tomorrow.
