I Have A Dream: Requesting Armour Feedback on Helm Idea
Posted: Thu Jul 03, 2008 9:34 am
I have been coveting a (specific) custom-made helm for a very long time.
At the moment I clearly cannot afford one, but nevertheless crave one.
I need to sate the urge, while perhaps giving a financial goal to aim savings at.
With that in mind, I’m requesting quotes from armourers out there as to APPROXIMATELY what they would charge for a helm built to the following specifications.
This will help put a number on desire, while hopefully convincing my unconscious self that it won’t happen now, but might in the future
Wanted: Black-and-white burgeonet with three buffes (faceplates).
The specific helm that started this craving is this one, by William Hurt:
I am fairly certain that this is the same one, if not, it’s a further example of what I am looking for:
Mr. Hurt is not taking commissions at the moment, but I may contact him privately to see if he’s willing to answer this question also. I am not asking anyone to COPY this design – that would be unethical of me. I am simply asking what it would take them to produce a design along those lines. There are historical designs that inspired Mr. Hurt’s design, and he pointed me toward them. I would be able to provide these photographs.
The specifications are thus:
Burgeonet to be built to as high a degree of historical accuracy in form as possible. Welded construction acceptable, but it should appear authentic on external inspection. When worn with or without falling buffe, should be of a living-history standard of appearance.
Material may be stainless (satin finish) or mild steel.
Built to fit a 23.5â€
