Okay, I have a nice gambeson made by James B here on the archive, constructed of linen in and out and filled with cotton. It appears to be a mix of handsewing (hems and some of the fidly bits) and machine sewing (the quilting lines). There is some variation in the quilting stitches, though, so it may be all handsewn. Color is blue and greyish-kinda-purple. The front opening is an S-curve. Closure method is a row of rings sewn to each side - I think you are meant to use a single cord to run from ring to ring top to bottom (cord not included). I'd call it sized for an XL, comfortable to fight in for a 46" - 48" chest, or to wear for court and such up to about 50". Rough measurements -
Chest - 52ish"
Neck to hem down center back - 35"
Top of shoulder down to hem in front - 35"
Sleeve, armpit to cuff - 21"-22"
Back, armpit to armpit - 21"-22"
I never wore this except to try it on a few times - it's just too small for me. The fellow I bought it from never fought in it, but wore it a time or two. Essentially unused.
Unfortunately, it's just too small for me to fight in. Even more unfortunately, I'm hard up for some cash, so I'm trying to sell it off.
