Greetings,

I'm looking to buy a decent steel punch, ideally something that can handle 14 gauge/

I may end up getting a cheap import off eBay that would work well enough for a starter punch(this would be my first), but I thought I would check here in case anyone had a decent one they'd be willing to part with for a reasonable price.

An older one would be fine.

Thanks.

Mild. Would stainless be harder?

as a rule stainless works a bit harder then mild steel. there is noticabley more wear on cutting tools drill bits in paticular and usualy when rough shaping you need a bigger hammer.

Hey the number 5 won't punch a 3/16 hole through mild. You want to look for one of the bigger whitney punches. You can generally find the old #8 or #10 punches on e-bay for a reasonable price. Punches and dies are still available so you don't need to worry about wether they're included or not.
