iso parts for a bar bender
I picked up a harbor freight bar bender and I need to find bending dies for it.
the rest of the tool is there but the dies themselves are missing.
according to the parts list they come in 1 1.25 1.5 1.75 2 2.5 and 3 inch sizes. about two inches long with a 5/8 hole.
wondering if someone might know where to the the Dies for this.
its the same model listed on there web page as a table top bar and rod bender.
as I purchased this part out side of harbor freight I was not shure if they will get back to me with a source for replacement parts.

If it's a Hausfeld (sp?) knockoff, you might be able to use "original" parts..

If you have the product manual or can download it from their site, there is an 800# , on the front page,you can order parts from. I have never tried this, but I would try that first. Hausefield parts will probably be higher in price (quality also).

I have one of the benders and I have used it twice so far, I am not 100% impressed with it, but it does work. I had to make an odd sized die for it and I used black iron pipe and welded two flat bars through it and drilled it to fit the pins, centering it was the worst part.

Have you checked a HF store? NY has them in Albany, Buffalo, Cheektowaga, 2 in Rochester, Syracuse, and Utica.

I have some for a floor mounted bender (which, alas is not being used), but the shipping would prolly be more than how much I'd need to get to part with them :wink:

I'll see if I can find them, if I can I could prolly part with them for $20 plus shipping, I'll PM you tomorrow.

Download the manual and call the 800 number.

Have the manual in front of you ti give them info... but my experience with the HF parts department was pretty decent.

Call... give part number, give credit card number, told total, billed total, and a week or so later had parts.

Just like it should be.

I have found working with short sections of pipe work well at this point but I the rest of the set for other projects.
Thanks all for the advice.
I will probilby call harbor freight this week about parts.
the manual has a few instructions for basic bar work.
are there any other insturcitons for learing to use this type of tool or is it mostly trial and error?

HF's manual has some tips and technical information on how to bend with the device. I did not like their directions. The bender is a Hausfield knock off, this is the Hausfield site, which I have not explored:

Metalmeet bulletin board sometimes have some technical tips that are useful, also try custom auto builder sites.

The way I used mine in the past was by trial and error. Years ago, when I was in school and in my internship, the shops had DiAcro benders. I would love one of them, but out of my price range and the project I needed the bender for is finished, so mine gets used irregularly...
