Ashcraft Baker Gauntlets/ Old Used Gauntlets

Post by Mr. Gambeson »

I joined the SCA in January of this year, and I have been slowly piecing together armor for heavy fighting. I was wondering what everybody thought of the $90 mild steel clamshells at the Ashcraft Baker website. Or, if they are not recommended, whether anybody had any old, used, cheap, very small gauntlets they would be willing to part with.

I had a set and I liked them. For $90 you cannot beat them.

I stopped using my old set because I couldn't bend my wrist right for greatsword. But he has re-designed them since then and my skills at modifying armour have improved, so I just bought a new set.

AB Gaunts

Post by ticeetal »

Hello Gambeson,

I have a set of AB Mitten and half gaunts that I was going to list for sale once I get a hold of my wife's digi-cam. Actually my first harness was made up mostly of AB stainless arms, legs, gauntlets and spaulders.

Let me know if you are interested in the gaunts or any other pieces, or if you have any additional questions about any of the pieces.

Regards,

Matthew

Lord O'quinn makes nicer ones for basically the same price. Look him up here on the archive.

You'll be happier with the quality of Lord O'Quinn's than you would ever be with the AB stuff, I believe he has (or just recently had) gaunts for sale, you might want to search on his name in classified

I have opinions of my own- strong opinions- but I don't always agree with them.

Used AB mild steel clamshells for a long time, they worked great.

Still, the key to any set of gauntlets is gloving them properly...

That is an art...
