Banner orders

Post by Amanda M »

Just wanted to let everyone know my internet connection is back up so my reply times will be much speedier again. Also, I only have a couple orders so I am still taking them again, but my turnaround time is a little longer because I'm in school three days a week. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, pm or email me at silkbanners@gmail.com.

I would like to order one for my jousting show.

What are the options and such for them?

Isabella,

What were the prices and other specs again? I remember your work from other threads and I wanted to get one, but I want to make sure I can afford it before I take up a place in line.

Right now due to time constraints I'm only doing the 6' and 8' standards. I am working full time and going to EMT school 3 nights a week, which leaves me right now without a lot of free time. The 6' standard is $90 and the 8' standard is $120, including shipping and design. I have done a number of different shapes for those sizes, so I can dig up the link with pics if anyone needs it.

Here's an older thread with pics:

Or the gallery from photobucket, if the link is working right anyway.

What kind of silk are they? Do you think they would be durable enough to use in a jousting show?

Thanks!

I use 8mm china silk. It's pretty durable, so as long as you're using it for display and not smacking people with it then it should last for years. I guess it would depend on how you intend to use it though.

At the beggining of the show the knights ride out with banners and make passes at a lope. Then they take their vows before the "king" with thier banners.

Now, this is pretty tough stuff for cloth, as there is wood, steel and sand all over the place and it is possible that these will be rained on cause the joust goes on rain or shine.

They aren't hitting anything, but it is pretty hard on costumes and such.

I've seen a number of other banners made by others here in my kingdom that have been in use for years. They're in very good shape, but the colors are a bit faded from exposure to the elements. The fabric itself holds up pretty well since it is naturally strong and stretch resistant with good tensile strength. As long as you keep it away from sharp objects like trees or bushes it should hold up pretty well. It's also very light weight and dries very quickly. One thing I noticed at Estrella last year was that all of my banners were outside in the rain for at least 4 days and only one of them suffered major fading. It happened to be hung too low and the end sat on the soggy top of my pavilion, where the others were hung freely and dried within a few minutes when the rain did stop. You can gently clean stuff like dirt and dust from them by hand washing them and hanging them up to dry.

I've actually made several banners for use in equestrian or jousting shows now, so maybe their owners might pipe up and say how they are holding up.
