Looking for Mail Repair Tools

Post by Michael Moriarty »

Hi,

Im a fantasy LARPer but being a history fan I try to keep all of my kit as historicaly accurate as possible so while there are elves and orcs and what not running around in our game I try to keep my gear as close to mid 10th century Norse as I can.

Latest piece of kit im trying to put together is an in character armour repair kit. Got most of the stuff I need so far but one thing im having difficulty tracking down is authentic tools for repairing my mail. Spent quite a bit of time looking around the net and cant really seem to find a thing, though it could be that im looking for the wrong sort of thing as medieval tools are not something I have previously looked into.

So I was wondering if anyone here knew where I could get this sort of thing from?

While I would prefer it if I could find scandinavian tools my character has spent the last year working as a mercenary for what would be the rough equivalent of the 14th Century HRE(yeah its fantasy and different groups are based off different time periods) so I could use a later central european tool if that is all that is available.

Thanks for the help

For period tools:

I am not sure, but someone had copies of the tools for sale a while back.

what kind of chainmail do you have?
for butted mail I would go with two pair of pliers made by any blacksmith or as these are mostly for display perhapse some one thats just starting to learn. you could make them your self in an afternoon or three but this first few come out a bit rough.
For rivited mail add a punch, bench block, hammer and perhaps a rivet set if you are using round rivets.
