Like the title says, I added a new style of bottle to my line- a 40-oz costrel. As with all my bottles, it is hand sewn with linen thread from veg-tanned leather. It's sealed inside with pitch and outside with wax, and the stopper is cherry.
I have two of these available for $60 each, shipped in the US or to an APO. As always, I gladly take PayPal at m_kreitzer@yahoo.com.
Thanks for looking!

I rinse them well with lots of water as soon as they're empty, and I store them "dry". So far, I haven't had any liquid in them long enough to impart any taste.

I have 3 of Michael's bottles/costrels, but I've only ever put water in them. They smell a little funny, but they don't impart any taste on the water that I could detect. It's not a pungent scent. Sort of like the funky smell in those plastic camping/hiking canteens you get at Walmart or the army surplus store.
If I'm not mistaken, MdB uses a bit of pitch in sealing the bottles, which is the scent you smell. Nothing harmful, and it should subside as the bottle ages.
Certainly 1000 times better then drinking water from a rusty canteen like I did when I did Civil war stuff. To this day, I don't understand why I never got lockjaw/tetnus.
