Review: Hjalmr's Awesome Round Shields:

Post by Eirik »

Ok.. so just before Gulf Wars, Hjalmr offered to make a center-grip round shield like those on his website. As I had been admiring these for some time, I took him up on his offer.

Sold! :

1 center-grip round shield w/ rawhide edging, boss and handle, and painted design to my requested colors.

24.5" diameter
weight: about 5 lbs. (according to the Bathroom Scale Oracle)

Price: $100.00

As it arrived:

Straight up, all 5's. Communication was exemplary... I never had any questions about where this project was, or what was going on. He sent pics as we worked through the colors on the knotwork so I could easily make decisions.

Shipping is what shipping is. Hjalmr made a supreme effort to get it to me prior to Gulf Wars (2 day priority-bless you, man!), and there is no logical reason for why it took the USPS 3 days to get it from Memphis to Nashville, but there it is. It arrived at my house the day I arrived at the war.

As you can see, this thing is almost too beautiful to fight with. It appears to be extremely solid and well constructed. The rawhide edging is awesome! Nice and hard ( :D ) and well painted. I've just gotten back from the war, so I haven't had a chance to fight with it yet, but I expect to have a BLAST doing so.

Customer Service: n. 1. See Hjalmr
- he got right on it and made sure he had it ready to ship in plenty of time for Gulf Wars... we're talking placed-the-order-on-Tuesday-night-and-it-shipped-on-Saturday kind of getting right on it.
- I needed an extra boss for another shield I have, he didn't have one in stock, so he pulled the one off his new blue shield and sent it.

By the way, Hjalmr, my brother, Sir Madach, saw the pics of it and wants to talk to you about possibly doing a new one for him. (he will supply the wood)

Many thanks, sir... you did an awesome job of making what I saw in my head a reality!

That is too awesome... I think a friend of mine might have some business for you shortly, Hjalmr. I'll talk to him about it, but he's in the market for a shield like this.
