eBay- A mini-rant.
eBay- A mini-rant.
So, eBay no longer allows money orders as payment options for almost every item. What bastards. If you don't have a credit card shopping cart of your own, you are pretty much forced to use paypal. I went ahead and listed my guitar since I need the money, but I think my days of using eBay are pretty much over. I'd rather deal with the 75% numbnut response ratio of craigslist.

What?
I can't even see how they can enforce that.
I actually saw this coming since they own paypal, but I didn't actually think they would be that stupid -alot of people can't even use paypal.
It would be nice to see another one of the auction site take of....

Especailly since their 2001 consent decree with the justice depatment prohibited this when they took over Paypal.
Like everything else, is it really the law if no one cares to enforce it.

I do use ebay but I also use Ebid which is free and you can get paid any way you want.
ebay here try to force everyone to use PP.
here PP has to be an option on everything except cars and houses and on some items it has to be the only option.
PP uk used to be registered here and regulated by our gov but could not keep within the law here so had to move to mainland europe to avoid complaints.
one major complaint against them was when ebay banned some payment methods saying they were not to be trusted and one of them was run by a major UK bank, they lied and made accusations against a competitor who unlike them was not being thrown out because of ripping people off

ebay
we sell some on ebay. we don't like the charges they add up quick...listing fees, sale fees. pay pal fees, credit card pay pal fees....ect ect
anyway to make a long story short you can add in your listing that you will take 3% off total price if paid by money order in your add listing....i have not had any trouble. sure they want everybody to use pay pal...but thay can not police everything.

Putting that in your listing will get your paypal account frozen. Your user agreement stipulates you can't do that. The reason you can't is because credit card companies don't allow it and since e-bay works with CC it's not allowed.
Paypal can freeze your account at any time for any reason for any amount of time they like.

which ones has anybody tried?
I have looked at them but non of them come close to the business ebay has. I hate ebay, but they are the best place to sell your stuff withing a reasonable time frame.

unless people use the alternativs people will not use them.
I have listings on ebid and not much sells there but it costs me nothing and they can stay there.
instead of just saying they are not as good try and use them instead, there are bargains to be found if you look in new places and by listing an item or two it will encourage others.

I have also listed stuff on ebid -the stuff stayed there and I went hungry! Everyone bithes about ebay and some quit, but ebay is still the place to buy and sell cheaper stuff if you don't want to live on the streets. Ebay sucks, but it IS better then the alternative if you want to eat. Thank god for the archive.....

at least by having a few thing there it means that someone else into the same sort of stuff may see it and either buy saving you the fees on ebay ( here on Bins it is 9.9% plus listing fees plus 3.4% and 0.20 uk pounds for paypal payments )
or may think of selling there.
I list on ebay too and sell quite a lot there but prefer it when someone on ebay then joins a forum to contact me or goes to my website, they are quite happy to when they find the price difference

Ebay are assholes
I sold more stuff on ebay then on the archive, but have had far less problems and issues here on the archive then anywhere else.
