14th century saddlebags

Post by Edward MacTavish »

Does anyone know of any pictures of 14th century large bags/ saddle bags? I have seen the what looks like canvas bags on pack horses but am looking more for a leather bag.

Bags, Bundles, and pack baskets; Company of St. George's Dragon no. 11

Contains some images of horses with valises that sit behind the saddle (15th c, I believe).

A valise is what you are looking at, for a leather saddle bag in the Middle Ages. Some nice examples are seen in the link posted.

Now there's an idea I could actually get completed in the wee amount of time I find myself with. Thanks for the cool link!

Woo hoo it pays to bookmark things. Post some pics if you make it. I am thinking about making one but working on clothes first.

I'm in the same boat with you. Working on clothes. There are tons of other cool 14th C LH groups in their link pages as well as a few merchants I'd never heard of before. Info overload, but I'm lovin' it!!!
