reliquary?

Post by zippy »

I am looking for a reliquary, but have never done research in this field.
Found this book, does anyone have a critique of it?

Why and what I need.
4 years ago I was offered knighthood at Fall Aten Crown at Willard Springs in Flagstaff Az. This year we had our Fall Crown at the same site. So me and a fellow knight(who was knighted the day I was offered) did a small Deed of Arms, by taking all fights for the day. At the end of the day, we asked permission to take dirt from the site(as the site was 'holy' to us). We would like to created a reliquary to hold the land from this 'holy' site. I was told that Reliquaries were made with earth from Calvary and Mount Sinai, but I am having difficulty finding evidence, particularly in late 14th century.
any help or resources would be appreciated

Look at the small knitted reliquary bags if you want a "personal" one.

or how about one built into the wheeled pommel of a sword?

I want to make a larger reliquary for an 'altar' of sorts. I will more than likely make pendants or ampullae for individuals. The reliquary pouches or rosaries are options for individuals as well. I am really looking for a box or altarpiece style one, from the second half of the 14th century. I have maybe 8 cups worth of earth, and want it to hold about 5 of it.

I just want to see period examples, I will decide what I am capable of after that.

I am collecting, as many resources as I can. I hope to put links in this thread.
Most of the resources I have found are in book form, not a lot published (at least as a collection) on the web.
I am learning some of the terminology, which is making the searches more lucrative.
Sadly it looks like that 'Treasures from Heaven' exhibit ended, I would have loved to to take a road trip to see it.
