I'm looking for information on the doublet that was for sale in the 1997 Peter Finer catalogue. I have the basic info and one photograph. Are there more photos? Does any one know if this is in a museum?

Thanks, Tracy

I have the catalogue, and it has one additional picture from the back.

We can find a time to get it to you.

I found out today that Toby Capwell will be collaborating with Ninya Mikhaila (of Tudor Tailor) on a future publication with the working title Doublets of Defense. I inquired if they were going to examine the ex-Finer doublet and got this reply from NM: "I haven't seen it but Toby has, apparently it is in a very poor state of repair and it is unclear exactly what it's original purpose was meant to be - interesting nonetheless!" So perhaps at some future date we'll learn more about it.

Also I read today (from a source of unknown reliability) that the padded leather doublet in the Met had slats of thin wood in the belly area in addition to the padding. Does anyone had an authoritative source for this info? I can't find the doublet on the Met's infuriating search engine despite multiple attempts.

Thanks!

T.

I'm pretty sure the wooden slats were mentioned in Janet Arnold's Patterns of fashion 3 - I certainly remember reading it somewhere.

Did you get that second photo of the back of the Finer doublet, as if not, let me know as I have a copy on this machine, and will send it to you.
