I suspect the Shield is Ottoman - not European.

I don't know anything about that particular shield, but one of the "Triumphs of Maximilian" woodcuts has some guys with small round shields. I recall reading that this particular woodcut from that group was supposed to represent sword & buckler guys from Spain.

(I think think the coloring on this edition was done some centuries after the original woodcuts were made, but line details are pretty much unchanged)

Re: help with fluted maximillian round shield
The size of it, and the fluting really make me think it is Turkish, or Mamluk, it really has little in common with any European shield I am familiar with - certainly not the typical buckler. Targets, rondashes, whatever, usually are not decorated like that.

I don't believe that image archive credited the museum; Musée Royal de l'Armée et d'Histoire Militaire in Brussels, Belgium.

Re: help with fluted maximillian round shield
thank you armadillo, i have sent an inquiry to the museum. i am not convinced it is of eastern origin , i have never seen a similar decoration or fluting in ottoman or hungarian shields and all the other weapons and armour are european in the display.
