Considering buying an open face bascinet to supplement my klappvisor. Was looking at one in mild steel, but I live on the gulf coast, mild steel rusts almost overnight here. I'd considered painting it red or green and I was going to ask what the hivemind thought of that idea.
My documentation for painting it would be from

and here

The second one for sure looks painted, though I wonder if it is a realistic deptiction since the description says that is an Arthurian romance. Figured I'd ask y'all before I paint it and then have to strip it off since it's not documentable.

Re: Painted Bascinets
I should think that'd be enough. They had their rust problems too.
Alternatively, Turtle Waxtm auto wax still puts a barrier between steel and corrosion, adds shine, doesn't chip off as paint might.

Re: Painted Bascinets
We have documentary evidence for leather covered bascinets, so it could be colored leather. Hard to say it's paint based on an image.

Re: Painted Bascinets
Is there any evidence of a visor being painted or covered?

Re: Painted Bascinets
There are certainly sallets with visors which were painted, but I can't think of any evidence for them on bascinets.
