So A few weeks ago I was able to get a copy of Dan Howard's bronze Age Military Equipment book. It has been on my list of must reads for a great deal of time now. I just finished rereading it a second time and have to say I am very impressed.

As those of us who have known Dan for a while know he has a very high standard when it comes to evidence and analysis and it shows through very clearly in this work. I enjoyed seeing so many excellent sources merged into one relatively easy to use source. I also enjoy his in depth descriptions and recreations included to add some helpful ideas into how these objects were made and employed. His chronology of the development of war and its accompanying arms and armour was excellent.

Well done Dan!

A great work that any person interested in Bronze Age Warfare should read.

No problem. The praise is well deserved. I really love the appdx. such great and concise explanations. I wish we could get pictures made up for all these troop types. I think it'd go a long way to help see what it was really like.

I actually have read a number of works on the Bronze Age warfare and had some similar moments but you are right. Much better to remain civil and prove they are wrong.

I still want to do my armour testing with thickness in the future so I'll keep you posted so you can weigh in on it.

I've had a few people tell me that the work is terse and concise. I think that comes from my experience writing for the gaming industry. In those books, word count is very tight and you learn to make every word count. If you don't, half your work gets cut during editing. In this case I went significantly under the word count that Pen & Sword had allocated so I wrote the appendices afterwards to fill it out.
