Need some help with armor

Post by Damon »

So I am out in the sandbox right now and a few months before I come back I was going to order a new kit. I am talking to some local people in NH but a lot of people have recommended Armstreet.

I was thinking of going with this

Armstreet

It looks dead sexy and looks like it will move well for SCA fighting. Armstreet says it is based on some tower of London armor. I figured that with his helmet, gambeson, and then maybe down the road a TI chain shirt to finish it off.

What are your thoughts?

I think you'd want a Central Asian-styled helmet to finish it off. Trying to cap it with a Nordic spangen-hat would look like you didn't know any better. Which helmet do you have an eye on?

Armstreet makes finely decorated glossy shiny barely shaped pieces of steel. I don't know the oriental style of the armour, and surely for SCA combat it will perform fine, but I think their product are substandard.

I don't really care for it, neither the style or the shaping. My opinion.

Can you guys point me towards and armorer that can do a full kit for me that I can trust. I was doing crusader before and was pretty happy with it. I had a mix of sports/leather underneath a sexy Crusader robe and a nice looking WMA helmet.

I would not mind going full metal jacket 14th century sexy but I don't want 70 pounds of armor that does not move etc.

Any suggestions?

Either all aluminum XIV or all spring steel XIV. I'm a big fan of The Surly Anvil. Gruber, the armorer, is here on the AA. He makes very nice 4130 spring steel. I eventually plan on buying a kit from him, but that's a ways out.

If you are in the middle east I would guess that shipping from India would be cheaper then to hear. I would suggest Man-on-Anvil
(He made my helm viewtopic.php?f=3&t=166144.). Makes anything you like, works in all sorts of materials (including spring and spring stainless).
Here is an awesome example of his https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3 ... 1434090126 (and a link to his facebook albums to boot)
