documentation help

Post by losthelm »

I need help with documentation for a batch of cider.
This is my first A&S comp. and I want to do it right.
What do I need to include in the documentation and where can I find it on the net.

Brew was made with about half a gallon of unpasturized apple juice and about two to three tablespoons of honey fermented with the natral yeast for about 6-8 weeks.
in a half gallon jar with fermentation lock.

This was my first try at brewing and it turned out pretty well.

Also any ideas on presintation of a cider for an A&S comp?

Ah, glad to see you want to enter the A&S faire! Here are the "simple" A&S doc. criteria. Include 1) how you went about the project, how you did it, what you used, what your purpose for the project was, etc. 2) Include your period documentation such as where you found the recipe and how you know it is period, the period method for doing such projects and the like. 3) Explain why you made any deviations from the period method such as unavailibility of materials, etc.

The "purpose" of documentation in an A&S faire is to let the judges know what you were doing, why you were doing it and how it was done in period so that they can give you more personal feedback. For instance if you say that you wanted to make a good period cider using period methods, they would grade you on that basis. While if you said that you wanted to learn B&V or that you wanted to make a medieval based cider in a modern way they would grade you according to this. It primarily makes it easier for them to give you good feedback on how you are doing and what you can do to improve on the criteria you strive to fill. They will also give good feedback on the documentation so don't worry if it isn't perfect! If I can answer any other questions for you feel free to ask!
