I can't find "The Warriors" or "The Dark Avenger" anywhere. I even tried the local library. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thank you! Thank you! I never thought of trying a search for just "Warriors". I even tried to search under his name with no luck. I ordered it today! Thank you!

Dunno about mail over bare skin, but I have fought many times (metal weapons) with mail over a woollen tunic and a linen undertunic. Not THAT much of a problem, guys, though of course we're talking about combat in which blows are pulled.

On the other hand (and here I'm opening a can of worms) there's no evidence I'm aware of - and I've communicated with many people on the Hastings2000 list about this - that padding under mail was known or used before the Crusades. It was imported from the east, where it was used to great effect both under (or over) armour and as a form of protection in its own right. As far as I've been abler to make out, nobody at the major battles prior to that (Hastings etc etc) ore anything except their normal clothes under mail.

And yes, the sherriff WAS wearing real mail. Great movie, by far the best Robin Hood movie ever made.

I just picked up a copy of a movie called "The Agony and the Ecstacy". In a battle at the beginning of the film, many people are equipped with what appear to be fairly decent replicas of early sixteenth century munitions war-gear. Pope Julius even has a rather well-done full plate harness.

While I doubt that these costumes are 100% perfectly accurate, they seem to me a damn sight better than most of the trash coming out of Hollywood nowadays.....
