The Armour Archive

"European Armor in the Tower of London" was the title. I don't remember the author but it was printed by the Tower of London. They had it sealed so I couldn't open it but that price seems steep. Anybody own it??

I have this book. It is mostly photos of armour displayed in the Tower of London. I think I paid about $100 for my copy. I consider it worth that much, but then again, I regularly spend over $100 on armour books. The book is now out of print, and is hard to come by. You might try checking some of the used book dealers on the web and do some comparison shopping.

I don't think I would pay $125 for a book I couldn't look at first. Surely you could get it through interlibrary loan if they won't open it.

I use this book in my shop nearly every day. I would pay more than that for a second copy.

If you don't want it, please tell me who has it and I'll buy it.

I have two copies of this book because it is indeed hard to come across. Arthur Richard Dufty is the author. It is hard to find for under the price you have given, but you should be able to find it on bookfinder.com.

It is definitely one of the most perused books in my library. Beautiful black and white photographs. It shows my favorite 15th century composed harness from the RA's collection when it was still displayed with inaccurate restorations to the spaudlers and disassociated legs.

It is well worth that price for the contents. I just looked on www.abe.com and found several copies ranging from $85 to 100 pounds. I would tend to buy the $85 dollar one first.....

The last copy I bought was being sold for $100.

The other book I found on ABE was European Swords and Daggers in the Tower of London - also a very good book if you are interested in weapons.

Decide how much you are willing to pay, but if you like pictures of armour, mainly 16th century (but including a nice 14th c. bascinet and some 15th century stuff), buy it.

Hey, Chuck. I would have thought that you would already have had a copy of the Tower books. The swords and daggers one is pretty good too.

We need to let the new guys play a little bit and get some books. That is one of the most important thing when you are starting - get some good books so you can see what the real stuff looks like.

This was one of the first 3 real books I got. With it and Blair's European Armour you can go a long way.

$75 at the moment ($8s&h), he has a lot of other good books, but I think he is a bit overpriced on the others.
