Catalogue of the European Armour Collect of the FitzWilliam

Post by Sinric »

Ken Trotman is listing a new armour catalogue for sale, "Catalogue of the European Armour Collection of the FitzWilliam Museum" by Ian Eaves. Has anyone seen this book or the armour in the FitzWilliam Museum?

Hi Sinric,

I have had this on pre order from Trotman for almost a year now. Although I have never seen the collection of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Mac has told me it is mostly late 15th to 16th century pieces. Anyway, I think the book will be worth getting.

Cheers,

I took a 15 minute jaunt through the armour in this collection (I had to get somewhere....).

It is a nice little collection. It has a few early bits and some basic, ordinary stuff from the 16th century.

It is not a world-class collection like Vienna, Madrid, Paris, or New York, but it is better than almost any human could hope to form as a private collection now. Looking at the description of the book, I really wish it had more pictures (24 photos, 30 line drawings), but it will probably be good to have. They are listing it now at 90 pounds so it is not cheap.
