While I was replying to the thread on linen breeches, I was reminded of an incident I witnessed at a War several years ago.
There was a Lansknecht body guard for closing Court and they were all wearing scarves over their faces like bandits or gangsta's. I nearly laughed myself silly. This is a perfect example of re-enactors copying something out of a painting without paying attention to the context.
In period illustrations, the soldiers wives and servants towards the REAR of the marching column are wearing cloth wrapped around their faces to keep from breathing the dust stirred up by the folks marching in front of them. Of course, this is completely inappropriate for a noble procession.
Don't let these mistakes happen to you! LOL

Hmm..good point.
I am looking through the web in search for Landsknecht woodcuts for use as reference when making clothes.
If you know of any sites where they have them, please put a link here, since my evil over-genius plan is to try to collect as many as possible and put them on a single page (both links and woodcut photos.)

Maybe they were just ashamed of being German.
That would explain the scarves.
I mean, these people have to live here, and go to work the next day! Can't have people knowing they are German.
What would their nieghbors say?

- "Watch out! They'll probably try to anex our back yard or 'repatriate' our driveway!"
