So here I am thinking about wearing pieces of splinted armour. But I still have some questions about this. For instance:
I have seen splinted greaves on funerary brasses and possibly splinted cuisses too because of the rivetheads that show. But I've never come across splinted vambraces. Do any of you know any sources for this?
Also, I was wondering if tapered splints are historically accurate, i think they look cool, but sofar all i've come across are the straight bar like splints.
Thanks for the info!

--it is thought that the Valsgarde 8 grave contains splint vambraces (and greaves) but im guessing thats waaaaay to early for your purposes

For splinted vambraces you might look at the following effigies:
Gottfried von Bergheim, at Munstereifel Church, Rhineland; Burkhard von Steinberg, at Roemer-Museum, Hildesheim; Gunther von Schwarzburg (may be a woodcarving instead of an effigy); Sir John Gifford, Bowers Gofford, Essex; Guillaume Tirel, at Yvelines, France.
I only have pictures and drawings available to me, but all these show what look to me to be splinted forearm defenses.

<B>Bob,
It sounds like you have a great wealth of images at your disposal. Where did you find all of these?

Gaston,
Not really, actually most of those came from illustrations shown in Osprey books - the German Medieval Armies, and a couple of the Hundred Years' War books; I think one is from Arms and Armour of the Medieval Knight, by Edge and Paddock. I normally just use the Osprey books for an overview, but some of them have copies of primary/secondary work, and I don't mind using those portions.
I can look up the specifics if you'd like them.
