Fabric Question-Longcloth, Shortcloth and Sendal, what are t

Post by Guest »

I've been working my way through "Fashion in the Age of the BLack Prince" and i ran into a few types of fabric that im not at all familiar with. The ones im curious about are called Longcloth, Shortcloth and Sendal. The sendal is mentioned as being a material used in linings, and the book seems to indicate that it could have been wool, linen or cotton, but doesnt say specifically what it was made from. The longloth and shortcloth are mentioned extensively, but their material isn't discussed. Anyone know what modern materials most closely correspond to any of these three?

Hi Edmund,

I am not a textiles person. I think 'longcloth' and 'shortcloth' are probably refering to the knap of a wool. I was pretty certain that Sendal is a silk.
