I am assuming you want a doublet from 1550 to 1600. The best thing is to get the Fantasy Fashions Dashing Doublet pattern and alter it to what you find in Janet Arnolds book Patterns of Fashion: The Cut and Construction of Clothes for Men and Women C1560-1620. If you are a thin regular sized person the Period Patterns for doublets is the correct shape, but period patterns are hard to figure out for a beginner.
