14 century germanic garb.

Post by Armourkris »

Now that i have armour i supose i should go about getting some garb.

i'm aiming for 1350-60, germanic, but i aint got the slightest idea where to even begin looking for ideas and so on.

anyone know any good resources.
preferably stuff that isn TO horibly complicated?

as well what kind of fabric would you recomend i use?
i cant afford linnen or wool or any of those nice period fabrics, so what would you recomend?

i'm making it up fo SCA, so it aint got to be levin history quality, but ncer is always better.

Tybolt

From the painting I have looked at from that era I don't see much difference in German garb from the items found here:

http://www.personal.utulsa.edu/~marc-carlson/cloth/bockhome.html

Shirts are just like a shortened tunic with a simple circular opening for the neck.

Chausses and braise were worn, I suggest this pattern: http://dragonflydesignstudio.com/Pages/PatternsLF.html Medieval Accessories - 11th to 15th Century. I use the pattern and it works vary well.

You could either wear a tunic or a men's gown over the outfit. For a Tunic try this one:

For a gown try this one:

As far as material wool is expensive but linen is not too bad for cost. Try http://fabrics-store.com the extra dollars is so worth it in durability and the heat factor for linen over cotton.

Hope that helps.
