Leg, arm and spaulder pointing...

Any recommendation on what thickness of leather to use for pointing of arms, legs and spaulders? I have some leather, some of it is very thick, some very thin and none in between.
Does anyone have any good images of armour pointing they have done?

I've used circular patches of 5-6oz chrome tanned leather and they've held up well. I have tabs of about the same weight riveted to my arms as well so I'm pointing leather to leather.
I recommend that you stitch them on using a simi-circular stitch pattern around the top half of the patches. A circular stitch pattern will better distribute the stress across more area of cloth. If you use a square pattern the corners will be more likely to tear. Make sure you don't leave points at the ends of your simi-circles either. Basically try to have no "corners" in your stitch pattern.
