Late 15th Cen. Arming Coats: Patterns?

Post by Destichado »

After a cursory search across the net for armig coats, I've come up rather dry.

The patterns I have found are based more on padded jacks than an arming doublet.

Does anyone know a decent, at least moderately period pattern for an arming doublet, circa 1475?

This is something I have been asked about recently as well, and I have come up rather short also. I'd love to see just a good painting/drawing of what one should look like, everything I've come up with so far is just glimpses and peices.

Anyone have info that would help Destichado and I out?

I have a drawing of the shapes for mine if you are interested:

I have not finished mine and don't plan on it for a while because of other priorities but that pattern works, just work the lower arms to be tight on you so they don't bunch up under the lower cannon. Just be careful not to get to tight or you will rip it at the arm hole, leave a little extra fabric in the length above the elbow to solve that issue.

Would it be possible to give a synopsis of what your drawing is based on?

I based my arming doublet off of my doublet pattern.

My doublet pattern is based off of the lines I see in multiple paintings from late 1450s to early 1470s. I will try and get some of the paintings up on a page soon.
