Anglo-Saxon Manuscript

Hey everyone, I've decided to work on my Anglo-Saxon kit again. I'm looking for some manuscript images.

I thought I had seen an image (attributed to an AS manuscript) which showed a warrior with his cloak still on. It seemed odd to me, since I'd think that a cloak would get in the way, but he had it bunched up on his shoulder.

Has anyone seen an image like this? Did I dream it up, or misremember?

Sorry; I had a look through all my stuff, and though I have a fair bit of Anglo-Saxon, I can't find one such as you describe. Got some other nice pics, though. Do you want me to email them to you?

Found it! I've put it up at http://www.angelfire.com/empire/egfroth/AS_warrior_MS_Cott_Cleo_C._viii_f30.jpg - the title of the URL is the title of the document. I note also that he's wearing a dagged byrnie. I'm currently collecting contemporary pics of 11th century mailshirts with dagged hems and sleeves. There are more than you might think . . .

Ah! that's the pic. I was hoping it would give me a bit of insight into wearing a cloak with armour. No matter how I pin it, it seems like it would get in the way while fighting. Any experience there Egfroth?

I had always thought dagged maille was a thing of fantasy. How commonly does it appear?

Nup. I always take mine off to fight, but some of the guys in the Grey Company in Perth fight with cloaks on. Mind you, I think they're all a bunch of raving ratbags (Hi, Bill, Russell and Wormy!)

Not common, certainly, but often enough to show they weren't completely unknown. I'll send you examples with the stuff I email you.
