11th century Italy

Post by Brodir »

Hey All

I've recently shifted my interest to Italy in the 11th century. I've done some research online, but barely scratched the surface. I'm looking for book recommendations and general info.

My interests, of course, are leaning toward a military portrayal. It seems that the main fighting groups in Italy at the time were Byzantines, Normans, Arabs, and the native Italians. I'm oretty comfortable with the clothing and equipment of the Greeks and Normans, but less sure about the Arabs and the native Lombard/Italian warriors.

Just trying to drum up some discussion and perhaps a few pics, thanks in advance,

THe library at my school has this book in two parts, I just checked out the first book (1016-1130). THanks for the lead, looks good. As an aside, they also had a book by the same author called, "The Other Conquest". I didn't read it, but the table of contents is identical to the 1016-1130 book. Interesting.

Borrow a book? From an Italian? What's the point in that, when you can just ride on through Ravenna on your wee little horseys, shooting everythying in sight? Image
