Period Looking Hinges

Post by cristofre fortescu »

I want to make a couple of wood boxes, one for armour and the other for whatever. Where can I find period looking hinges that would, say, go across the entire lid and sides? Or maybe something close to that.

I'll leave it to other sources to post other sources, but my advise is to see your local blacksmith. They can match construction and style to the period that you're interested in.

Indeed! The Cap'n hit it right on the nose. I saw in your profile that you're in MS. Here's the URL for the MS blacksmithing group.

If they're anything like our local blacksmithing group they'll have a list of their members (probably one near you) that can help you out.

Check locally first, but, if you can't find anyone local, I can do the job w/o any problem.

If you have the space and a few tools you can make your own basic hinges pretty easily. I've made a few and they are very basic indeed but it is possible.
