Does anyone have an example of a "War of the Roses"

Post by Aaron »

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Does anyone have an example of a "War of the Roses" era suit of armour?

So far I have:
Pointed Sabatons
Greaves (back needs work…)
Steel legs
Floating (steel) elbows
Steel vambraces
Steel rebraces

And I'm working on a two-piece back and breastplate with an armourer.

I was working on the tonlet armour of the Chamberlian of Burgandy…but it's an uphill battle in the SCA (or even LH…who thinks the suit is "correct, but butt-ugly…" ;) )

I think I'm heading for a "War of the Roses" era full suit, with what I've acquired.

Does anyone have a link to photographs of a reproduction (or painting of armour of the time, intact suit, etc…)?

Thanks!

check out the my harness thread above for one good example of a very well done repro suit for starters. Any book on armour should have some good pics of late 15th century stuff..The English often used Italian armour made with a blend of Italian and Germanic features...Otto

Otto,

Could you please post a link, or web-site to your armour?

There is only one link to an Italian export harness on the "my harness" thread, and I am looking for options on the shoulders.

A nice sallet with brevor would be great I think. I was looking at a couple of nice helms on Ice Falcon's website, and they're...close...but then I'm not sure. I've seen tons of different helms from the 1400-1500 period, and I'm not really sure what would be correct for the time. I think a sallet with brever may do it. Am I right, or would a great bascinet work?

What about the shoulders? I'm hoping to get a nice pair from Ice Falcon (he's a local, a friend, and I would trust him with my life...or head...or shoulders).
