need idea of time period for my armor

Post by Stephen »

Good day. I have a question or two to ask . I have a small LLC that does educational demos in schools (elementary). I have a decent amount of armor that includes mostly 14th cent. stuff. Here is the problem. I am thinking of doing things a bit more authentic. I in the past did things within a 50 year "blanket" Now I find myself having a bascinet with hundskull, and globose visor, 3/4 legs with standard 14th cent. fans, full arms with same fans, spaulders and a set of pauldrons with haute guards, hourglass guantlets, and a simple breast and back. Oh and a decent size spanish type gorget. I have been looking at pics of French agincourt type kits. I wanted to know what I can do to narrow my stuff down? I also would like any pic refernces. Thanks
I also do steel work in this kit so I need to keep areas protected.

The most obvious thing that comes to mind is the haute guards. For what sounds basically like a c1375-c1415 harness, you need simple spaulders with no projections like wings or haute guards. I think around 1400 roundels started appearing to cover the armpits. I assume by "simple" breastplate you mean a flat one. I'd try to get hold of a globose, for Agincourt era with skirtlike faulds. Greaves and sabatons would certainly have been worn by anyone who had the other bits of armour you've described. The Spanish gorget would be right out, but can be hidden under your aventail for safety reasons. Or you could get a great bascinet, I think they were in use by Agincourt. I'm sure there are others who can give you a more refined critique. If you could post a pic that would help a lot. Thanks for posting!

I have emailled you with pics. I have no way of posting pics directly.
