Guillaume d'Orange Cycle

Is anyone here well read in the cycle of chansons concerning Guillaume d'Orange? Brent Hanner was kind enough to post an early flail image for me on the Yahoo "75years" board. The miniature is identified from the publisher as coming from the late 13th century "Moinage de Guillaume", Trivulziana 1025, fo. 142. With a little Googling, I have determind the club armed man to the right is the giant Rainouart. I am trying to see if anyone can provide a clue as to the man on the left? Is it William "the short(hook)nosed" himself, or one of Rainouart's opponents? The flail seems rather distinct as a weapon so early, and I suspect it would draw as much literary attention as Rainouart's 15' club bound in iron.
