I just updated my website, particularly the reference section. http://filebox.vt.edu/users/jselmer/research.htm
New articles include:
Early coats-of-plates and my reproduction based on St. Maurice
This article looks at references and sources to early coats-of-plates, generally in the 13th century. My reproduction is based off of the 1250 statue of St. Maurice. The history and construction of this example is focused on.
Iron Corrosion in Archeology
This brief essay looks at the different available methods of iron conservation. The various difficulties are explored for the techniques of corrosion removal and ways to resist future corrosion are introduced.
How I Built a Serpent
This picture article shows how I carved this unusual Renaissance instrument out of plywood.
It would have been better to put take the COP pictures at the begining of practice instead of the end, but either way I wasn't wearing my chausses so I'll probably replace the pictures in the future. I'll have to look around online a bit to see if I can find pictures of any of the other early examples listed. Let me know if you know where any are.

St. Maurice COP article and site update

Here is the helmet, based off of pictures in the Maciejowski Bible:

It's shown in other places on my site, although some pictures are from before I painted the cross white. It's the first helmet I made. I'm also wearing the green armoured surcote that was replaced by the St. Maurice coat-of-plates.
I'm in the process of buying the Wisby book, so I may have more to add to the article, soon. I've only been able to glance through it before.
