Hi everyone, I'm making a somewhat fancified tournament great helm and I am after some designs, either authentic or styles that do not stray too far from authentic breath holes. I would prefer something a bit more interesting than lots of holes. If able please provide what the design symbolises and what meaning it coveys if anything. I'm open to crosses and whatever else. Also would fleur-de-lis be a suitable pattern? Do any helms use it?

I believe that The Black Prince's helm had a fleur d'lise on the right side, made by drilling lots of holes to make the outline. You are pretty much limited to holes and a few crosses if you want to stick to what was done.

The cross would usually be on the lower front, near the bottom. This is where the toggle goes in so that the helmet can be carried on your back.
