Where do you buy your pottery/crockery from?

Post by Halvgrimr »

I have been surfing the web and havent found much in the way of merchants who sell authentic stuff (even authentic looking seems to be rare)

I prefer Viking Age stuff of course but am open to generic pieces as well

Trinity Court Potteries, UK, Jim and Emma Newbold, superb documented and copied ceramics from a long way back.

I know that Gwen at Historic Enterprises sells some of their stuff in the US.

It is highly recommended.

Halvgrim, they do commissioned work too, if they don't have the info you could provide.

Most of our ceramic stuff comes from Julia Smith or Historic Enterprises. For Viking ceramics, You could also try Jelling Dragon, The Northerner, or Raku Raku Tei. (More merchants listed at the bottom of http://geocities.com/karen_larsdatter/feastgear.htm.)

In addition to Hroar & Nonna, you might also want to try the SCA-Potters mailing list.

Hal, dig up your documentation for what you want and send it to Ol'ga. I bet she will be able to help you out.

Halv,

If you can, get in touch with Sir Baldar down in Trimaris. His squire is doing some top notch things with pottery. I own several pieces of his and they are Very accurate. Wish I had more in the way of a link to send you but I don't at the moment.

Tuckahoe Trading Co. sell reproduction pottery based on C16-C18 artifacts. It is reasonably priced and readily available.

Halvgrim,
The guy who runs my rental department make some of the best viking age pottery I have seen. He is planning on having pieces for sale at Pennsic. If there is a particular piece you are looking for he may be able to make it for you by then. PM me if interested.

Are you planning to visit the reenactor fair at Old Fort MacArthur on the weekend of July 9-10? That's your area...

We'll have several hardcore Viking Age reeanactors willing to take some pottery off your friend's hands! :)

Steve Sprinkle at http://www.historicalpottery.com/ . While his catalog reflects mostly late 17thC - 18thC items, he's completely capable of making other items.
